CKGSB Knowledge Site Debuts

Fabricatorz recently custom-designed a website for Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB). Jon and Brad took lead duties in the construction of this dynamic platform based upon Aiki Framework that offers a look into Chinese business knowledge:

The focal point of this open sharing platform is practical insight into China business from CKGSB’s world-class faculty and influential alumni network. These insights as are presented alongside interviews and analysis from executives from China and around the world and other leading authorities.

Just today, Fabricatorz have publicly released a new and improved site for Beijing-based Naihanli&Co. Brad and Jon stepped up to the plate to deliver this latest offering, contributing on site design, implementation and deployment under our Aiki Framework platform. Naihanli&Co. founder, Jinjing Naihan Li strives to create furniture built on functional and socially responsive designs:

"..she introduces furniture as a fashionable, social concept that accommodates the mod- ern and mobile lifestyle we live. Her work poses the question, why not have furniture that represents the way you live? And, why not have fun with it? She does."

Fabricatorz Rebuild Creative Commons Web Presence Across Five Engines

In early September, Fabricatorz were contracted by Creative Commons to redesign and launch an updated website design in time for the Creative Commons Summit and its fall fundraising campaign. Later we were to roll-out the same theme across their other major websites. That means we had to crank out in a short time a theme that could be simplified, controlled from one set of master files, and change quickly based upon regular direction from CC staff, while making sure everything works well across five web engines: the main wordpress site, civicrm, the cc licensing engine, CC's Wiki and search.creativecommons.org.

Screenshot of Creative Commons Website

Christopher from Fabricatorz designed the site from some various suggestions from Creative Commons CEO Cathy Casserly and board member Esther Wojcicki. Christopher wisely pushed to build the design on top of HTML5Boilerplate, so that the site would be stable across modern browsers and all the way back to IE 7 and above on Windows, since many Creative Commons website viewers use Internet Explorer on Windows.

Like Open Font Library, the site is also built using CSS media queries so the design is responsive to different devices from desktop to iPad to mobile phone. And, since the site is HTML5, its using the latest in stable open web technologies.

The above CC Search is now fully themed to fit in as well, with the entire Creative Commons website. This small portal actually gets a lot of traffic from the main Creative Commons website, so its important that it works decent and can be a lightpost illuminating the path to Creative Commons-licensed content.

Fabricatorz are available now for hire to build websites, web apps, convert your website to the future, translate your site into many different languages like Chinese and/or start from the bottom or top, and complete your project! We are lining up projects for 2012 fast. Let's talk about how we can work together on your project.

AcaWiki Presentation at FISL12 in Brazil

One of my duties on the Fabricatorz client project, AcaWiki, is to present when possible about the project. We are supporters of AcaWiki and are actively growing the academic summaries and community. Below is a presentation I made at FISL12 in Porto Alegre, that provides an overview of the problems the AcaWiki project addresses, and the solutions its provides. Its very general, and for explaining the project's drive and goals to get more people involved. Please do give your feedback and use the slides freely:

Fabricatorz: This week (August 8 - 14)

The Fabricatorz team has been all over the map (literally) these last few weeks, and it's time for a status report!

Kicking things off, Founding Member and Developer extraordinaire, Jon Phillips, was a key speaker at this years FISL Conference, in Brazil. This gathering of free software developers and enthusiasts is ever-growing and one of the largest sources of such a community in the world. Jon's presentation involved an increasingly vital topic in today's "webscape": an Autonomous Federated Social Web. The conference was a huge success and it's current initiative involves creating that social web network.

In Affiliated news, StatusNet has garnered additional funding from FirstMark Capital. With this latest addition, StatusNet has brought in a total of $2.3 million in investment dollars!

A key Community-driven project, The Open Clip Art Library updated to Version 2.4 last week, spearheaded by Fabricatorz Developers Bassel Safadi and Brad Phillips. Brad initiated the call for and Release of the Sports 2010 Clip Art Package that coincided with the OCAL update. This week, Brad took giant leaps toward more active Community participation with the building and launching of an 'Activities' box that now sits on the Library's Home Page. From this starting point, any user visiting the site will have direct access to the most recent goings on and incentives that The Open Clip Art Library has to offer, beginning with next month's Fall 2010 Clip Art Collection.

Bassel continues his forward momentum in the Fabricatorz work-flow by updating his Aiki Framework to Version 0.35! In this new Release, many "under the hood" tweaks have taken place to ensure a more speedy and reliable user experience, through the platform. Sites featuring Aiki Framework 0.35, along with OCAL, include Open Colour and Sharism.org.

Speaking of Sharism, Christopher Adams recently completed work on the logo design for the site (above), which aims to promote the open sharing of resources, with the idea of "getting what you give".

Meanwhile, developer Barry Threw continues advocating advances in technology, as it applies to music, with his resent presentation of the K-Bow, a device that puts digital control in the hands of stringed instrumentalists in an intuitive and seamless fashion. Also check out some of Barry's latest collaborative work below, a video walk-through of the Global Lives 2010 installation at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco.

Stay close to Fabricatorz.com to keep up-to-date on the latest work being rolled out by the Team!
