Freesouls Arabic Edition

Goal

To create an Arabic edition of Joi Ito's Freesouls book (http://freesouls.cc) for the Arab World.

Priority

• Work with editor of freesouls, to get the sources for the book
  • The book is CC BY 3.0 licensed currently, so could just do without asking, but better to work with the publisher
• Translate book into arabic
• New foreword from Joi and Donatella focusing on CC in the Arab World, and Joi living in the Arabic World

Options

• Update the design of the book (requires more time)
• Update the essays in the book for the Arabic world (requires a lot of time)

Freesouls 2.0

Goal

To develop a new web-based software that generates freesouls photo books.

Priority

• Update http://freesouls.cc website with new software built off current theme
• Do new updated site with http://aikiframework.org
  • need to feature select books, including Joi's old book done with the software, and selected notable people's versions, and an arabic photobook version
• The software flow is:
  • Start software wizard
  • Select photos from http://flickr.com that are CC Attribution 3.0 licensed
  • Select the cropping of the photos that fits in standard page size
  • Select optional name tag and location of the tag on the photo (at present is yellow tag)
  • Reiterate the process over all selected photos
  • Export to TeX
  • Generate final book
  • Export final book to Amazon or other targets for sale
  • Split profits from the custom books

Future

• Expand the book offerings to multiple services for input of photos and output to other services

StatusNet Arab World

Goal

To rollout a relevant and growing status updating service for the Arab World.

Priority

• Develop a subdomain for the project such as:
  • http://ar.status.net
• Develop marketing strategy
  • Connect with Al Jazeera because they are currently making videos on how to use twitter, but should also do for other services like StatusNet
  • Talk to Mohammed at Al Jazeera and provide, possibly, a video showing how to use ar.status.net
• Add features to StatusNet if they don't exist to support:
  • Arabic support is the best ever!
  • Right-to-Left support is the best ever!
• Develop compelling end-user reasons to use the software
  • Open Source
  • Federated
  • Arabic Interface
  • Can tweet, facebook, and other from one location, emphasis on aggregation of all those places and posting to them from ar.status.net
  • Add plugin to connect with jeeran, but be careful about (laith at jeeran is person to connect with)

Goal

To develop a powerful framework and community that is easily editable from the web, and make it profitable.

Priority

• Make Open Clip Art Library with Aiki Framework
• Release Aiki Framework huge at Linuxconf in Australia
  • help sort out travel for Bassel at Linuxconf, and possibly to CC AU (in brisbane) in January 2009
• Take the development from OCAl and release http://aikicms.com/org

Future

• Rollout *.aikiapps.com as a hosted service offering, or build your own app, or use pre-existing aiki apps at a new subdomain.

To mix together the three places I'm fascinated with: China, Arab World, and USA into a live music/media mix.
